  • Long term and short term fitness goals

The fitness goals you set can be both short term and long term. In order to avoid fitness failure and achieve your long term goal, you will have to complete several short term fitness goals. For example, if your major aim is to shed 30 pounds from your body weight, you will have to set several short term goals aiming at loosing 2-3 pounds every week.

  • Things to keep in mind

While setting your fitness goals, you will have to keep several things in mind so that you do not end up with fitness failure. Most importantly, your goals should be attainable, and you should develop a fully-fledged plan to reach them. Qualities of a good goal setting include:

  • The  goals should be specific

This means that instead of starting running or      setting a goal to loose weight, your goal should include a specific number      of kilograms you will loose in definite number of days. If you have      started running, you should set how much distance you want to cover within a given time frame.

  • The goals should be measurable

The goals that you set should have some numbers and figures attached to them, such as 5 miles and 15 pounds.

  • The goals should be attainable

You will set fitness failure for yourself if you set unattainable goals in your fitness plan. For example, setting a goal to loose 30 pounds in 3 weeks is unattainable, and it is sure to bring you failure. A healthy way to loose weight is 2-3 pounds in a week. You can take help of a professional to set attainable goals, who will also take your current fitness level into account while setting fitness goals for you.

  • The goals should be realistic

You should set goals in such a way that they adjust well into your schedule, lifestyle and responsibilities. If your goals interfere with your normal living, you may loose motivation and leave them without success. For example, if you create a goal to run 5 miles per day and if you already commute for long distances every day, it may not be a realistic goal to set. The goals that you set should be challenging, yet not impossible.

  • Once you have set small fitness goals in your fitness program, it is also important to measure your progress frequently. By evaluating, you will be able to know if your fitness plan is effective and if you need to make changes into it.
