Healthy Snack Tips

Did you know that snacking can actually help you lose weight? Of course, you have to snack on the right foods for this to work, but consider this: when you eat only two or three times a day, chances are you spend most of the day hungry.

Then when you sit down for your next meal, you end up overeating to compensate for the many hours without any kind of food. Instead of doing this, it makes more sense to eat 2-3 smaller meals and then have two small snacks in between those meals.

At the end of the day, snacking can actually help you save calories, since you won’t be eating like a mad person. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Now all you have to do is make sure you choose the right snacks. Here are some ideas of healthy, low to medium calorie snacks that can help with your weight loss goals:

  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt. Add some vanilla or cinnamon and a dash of Stevia to sweeten

  • 1 cup blueberries or raspberries

  • 1 small banana

  • 1 small to medium fruit

  • 1 small can of tuna packed in water

  • 1 small sweet potato, baked

  • Half an apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter

  • 10-15 carrot sticks

  • A stick of low-fat mozzarella cheese with either a medium apple or one tablespoon of peanut butter

  • ½ English muffin

  • A quarter cup of your favorite nuts (cashews, almonds and pistachios have the lowest amount of calories and fat)

  • 2 hard-boiled eggs

Keep in mind that in order to lose weight, you need to also reduce the size of the other meals you’re eating. You don’t have to be too drastic when changing portion size. Just cutting down your servings by 25-30 percent should be enough to make a significant difference calorie-wise.
